Paid Time Off

Your vacation & sick time, in plain English.

Effective December 1, 2023
The short version: You start earning PTO on day one. It builds a little every paycheck, and how much depends on how long you’ve been here. You can start using it after 90 days — and anything you don’t use rolls over to the next year.

How you earn PTO

Time at BluSharkEarned each pay periodAdds up to (per year)
First 2 years4.62 hours120 hours · 15 days
2–3 years6.16 hours160 hours · 20 days
3–4 years7.70 hours200 hours · 25 days
4+ years9.24 hours240 hours · 30 days

Tenure tiers by months of service: 0–23 · 24–35 · 36–47 · 48+. If you move into a new tier mid-period, that period is earned at your current tier’s rate.

When you can use it

You begin earning PTO immediately, but you can’t use it until you’ve been employed 90 days. After that, request time off through ADP — there’s no minimum or maximum per request.

Vacation & sick — one balance

This is a combined “Vacation and Sick Paid Leave” policy: there’s no separate sick bank. Whether it’s a vacation day or a sick day, it comes out of the same PTO balance.

Carryover

Unused PTO carries over from one year to the next — you don’t lose it at year-end. Carryover is handled manually by HR/payroll rather than automatically, so balances are reviewed and rolled at award time.

If you’re on leave

On an approved leave of absence (such as FMLA), PTO accrual pauses while you’re out and resumes when you return to active work.

If you leave the company

PTO stops accruing once your employment ends.

Domestic employees only — Virtual Assistants follow the Virtual Assistant Policy Handbook. This is a plain-English summary of BluShark’s official PTO policy in ADP WorkforceNow (Blu Shark Digital LLC), which remains the system of record. Questions? Check with Dalton or the People team.
